Stainless sleeves

Swivel shaft
Stainless sleeves are installed on the swivel shaft to increase the service life. This prevents the shaft corrosion of at the points of contact with the seals. Sleeves have a ground-polished mirror outer surface. In case of wear, the sleeves can be replaced with new ones. The inner diameter of the sleeve and the outer diameter of the shaft are ground and precisely dimensioned. Therefore, after replacing the sleeves, the outer diameter is within acceptable limits.

Bearings

Swivel bearings
We use tapered roller bearings. They can work with axial and radial loads. The swivel can be used as a support block that absorbs strong shocks and vibrations and transfers them to the drilling rig carriage. In this case, the hydraulic motor or gearbox performs only the function of rotation.

Four seal barriers

Water drilling swivel drawing
The first barrier – PTFE bushings, prevents the passage of abrasive particles. They have tension on the internal and external diameters and, due to the elasticity of the material, provide a tight glide. Bushing width 16mm. When drilling with direct circulation, abrasive particles do not come into contact with other types of seals, and the service life of the swivel is significantly increased.
The second barrier – Hydraulic polyurethane seals, can take high pressure. They allow the swivel to be used with a piston mud pump or the compressor with a hammer.
The third barrier – Rotary shaft oil seals, provides general swivel tightness.
The fourth barrier – Rotary shaft oil seals, installed in the flanges to ensure the tightness of the bearing chamber and prevent the penetration of dirt from the external environment.

Connecting with the hydraulic motor shaft

Swivel connection with hydraulic motor shaft
The swivel shaft has a bushing inside to be connected with the shaft of the hydraulic motor or gearbox. Inside the bushing, there is a hole with a keyway. By this solution, the same swivel can be used with different rotators. If you decide to use a different motor, you can replace the bushing, or ream the hole and make a new keyway. The maximum diameter of the hydraulic motor shaft can be 50mm with a key width of 14mm. We have ready-made bushings for commonly used hydraulic motors. When placing an order, choose the option from the stock-available bushings, or tell us the diameter of the rotator shaft, and we will send you the compatible bushing.
If you don’t know which motor you will be using, we can send you a solid bushing without the hole. You can do the connection later. Also, if you want to use a spline connection, you get a solid bushing (our equipment allows to make keyed connections only).

Flange connection with the hydraulic motor

To connect the swivel with the hydraulic motor, we manufacture the transition piece – a massive flange with holes for bolts.

We have ready-made transition piece for CharLynn 6000 and 2000 Series hydraulic motors. You can choose the option during checkout.

Connecting with the drilling rig carriage

The swivel can be connected to the base plate of the drilling rig carriage using bolts and special holes. There are holes in the upper and lower flange, respectively, you can make a connection in the upper and lower part of the swivel, as shown below:

Drill pipe connection

For the drill pipe connection is used an adapter, which is screwed onto the swivel shaft. You can choose one of the following adapters:
API 2 3/8 REG Male adapter
API 2 3/8 swivel adapter

Adapter for threading
Since there are different types of drill pipe threads, we offer the adapter type without a threaded end, so you can thread the end of the adapter yourself.
The dimensions of the adapter for threading are shown below:

You can choose the adapter type when ordering the swivel.

Flushing fluid supply

The flushing fluid enters through a hole in the swivel body. The hole is threaded with BSP 2”. The aluminum Camlock connections are screwed into the body: Male (type F 2” BSP) + Female (type C 2”).
